Samsung Exynos 4 Quad annouced

Image from: http://www.itlounge.com/

The Exynos 4 Quad is quad-core processor, four Cortex A9 cores based on Samsung's 32nm HKMG fabrication process. It can be clocked up to 1.4GHz. It's 20% more efficient than the previous Exynos 4 Dual. This chip uses power gating, frequency and voltage scaling on all four cores to cut power consumption when not in use. The Exynos 4 Quad is pin-to-pin compatible so hardware manufacturers can easily upgrade to this new chip. Probably this chip will be present in the next Galaxy device. If you see the video you will notice a device at 1:10 which is probably the next Galaxy.

Nokia Lumia 900

Thanks to Nokia and Microsoft's partnership, we seem to be getting lots of new Windows Phone devices.  The most recent release was the Nokia Lumia 900, which was just released a few days ago.  The Lumia 900 is the most high-end phone in the Lumia series.  The Lumia 900 runs the Windows Phone 7.5 Mango mobile operating system powered by a 1.4GHz Qualcomm processor.  The phone comes with a 4.3" ClearBlack AMOLED screen and an 8-megapixel camera with a 1-megapixel front-facing camera for video calling.  A feature that stands out from the rest of the smartphones is that the display is much more visible in direct sunlight than any other smartphone around.

Image from: bgr.com

Back when Apple released the iPhone 4 in 2010 with the stunning Retina Display, Apple boasted that because of the high pixel density, the screen would still be legible in direct sunlight; and it is.  However, the Nokia Lumia 900 has an even higher percentage of screen visibility even with low brightness (many users opt to keep the brightness low to conserve battery life).

As with all other Nokia Lumia devices, it will be available in several colours including cyan, black and white within a few weeks.

Hope you have enjoyed reading this article.  Come again soon!

New author and rumours by Apple

Hello world!  I am a new author to this wonderful and informative blog, I also manage another similar blog called Techbrin.  For my first post, I will be showing you a new rumoured Apple product.

A few weeks before the release of Apple's new iPad (iPad 3) in March, many fans where saying that Apple was going to release a 7 inch iPad known as iPad Mini, to keep up with competitors such as the HTC Flyer or the Samsung Galaxy Tab.  As we know this was not the case and Apple released a new iPad with the same display size of 9.7" with a new Retina Display.

These rumours are resurfacing, however with a new twist.  This "7 inch device" as referred to by many people, can in fact be a variation of the iPod touch instead of the iPad, known by fans as iPod touch XL.  Also with the rumours of a larger display on the upcoming iPhone 5, a new larger iPod wouldn't be a surprise.

Concept size comparison of an iPad Mini against an iPad 1 and an iPhone 3GS

The iPod touch is sometimes referred to as an "endangered species" as many people now opt to carry only one device that does it all instead of carrying a phone and a media player as I wrote in an old post on my blog here.

A smaller iPad/large iPod touch would certainly create a new market for Apple and probably defeat many competitors. Some users are searching for a device that is between the two both in size and in price, and if they can't get that from Apple, they'll look elsewhere!

I hope you have enjoyed reading my first post, more to come in the future!

Sharp HD IGZO LCD panel

Sharp will roll out this LCD panel for monitors, laptops and tablets. According to a press release from Sharp the production of this panel has started. This panel is based on IGZO technology ( indium gallium zinc oxide ). A 7-inch panel will have a 1280 x 800, 217 ppi and a 32-inch panel will have 3840 x 2160 resolution, 140 ppi.

Press release:

Sharp Begins Production of World's First LCD Panels Incorporating IGZO Oxide Semiconductors

In March 2012 at Kameyama Plant No. 2, Sharp began producing the world's first high-performance LCD panels incorporating IGZO oxide semiconductors. Sharp is expanding production scale through April to meet market demand.

Kameyama Plant No. 2 first started operations in August 2006, manufacturing highly advanced LCD panels for TVs. Production systems have subsequently been reorganized to focus on producing small- and medium-sized LCD panels for the world's rapidly growing smartphone and tablet terminal markets.

Employing advanced IGZO oxide semiconductors enables Sharp to produce LCDs with smaller thin-film transistors and increased pixel transparency, thus allowing for lower energy consumption. In addition, proprietary UV2A*3 photo-alignment technology employed in Sharp's AQUOS LCD TVs enables these displays to achieve high image quality.

Sharp will encourage the application of its new high-resolution LCD panels to high-definition notebook PCs and LCD monitors-which are both expected to grow in demand-as well as to mobile devices. Sharp will also contribute to creating markets for attractive new products.
Sample Specifications of LCD Panels Incorporating IGZO

For LCD Monitors Display size 32 inches
No. of pixels 3,840 x 2,160
Pixel density 140 ppi

For High-Definition Notebook PCs Display size 10 inches

Facebook buys Instagram !

Facebook buys Instagram for 1 billion dollars.

Mark posted on Facebook saying this:

"I'm excited to share the news that we've agreed to acquire Instagram and that their talented team will be joining Facebook.

For years, we've focused on building the best experience for sharing photos with your friends and family. Now, we'll be able to work even more closely with the Instagram team to also offer the best experiences for sharing beautiful mobile photos with people based on your interests.

We believe these are different experiences that complement each other. But in order to do this well, we need to be mindful about keeping and building on Instagram's strengths and features rather than just trying to integrate everything into Facebook.

That's why we're committed to building and growing Instagram independently. Millions of people around the world love the Instagram app and the brand associated with it, and our goal is to help spread this app and brand to even more people.

We think the fact that Instagram is connected to other services beyond Facebook is an important part of the experience. We plan on keeping features like the ability to post to other social networks, the ability to not share your Instagrams on Facebook if you want, and the ability to have followers and follow people separately from your friends on Facebook.

These and many other features are important parts of the Instagram experience and we understand that. We will try to learn from Instagram's experience to build similar features into our other products. At the same time, we will try to help Instagram continue to grow by using Facebook's strong engineering team and infrastructure.

This is an important milestone for Facebook because it's the first time we've ever acquired a product and company with so many users. We don't plan on doing many more of these, if any at all. But providing the best photo sharing experience is one reason why so many people love Facebook and we knew it would be worth bringing these two companies together.

We're looking forward to working with the Instagram team and to all of the great new experiences we're going to be able to build together."
